The Opportunity

• Be part of an exciting platform acquisition in the powder coatings space, with plans for further acquisitions and organic expansion: play a key role transforming the business from founder-led technical focus to commercial growth focus while retaining entrepreneurial character.

• Parent company provides enhanced infrastructure including marketing support and logistical hubs across the US, enabling national growth from a regional base.

• Sell a superior product line of highly durable powder coatings that significantly outperform competitors.

• Drive aggressive 3x growth in 3 years, filling underutilized capacity and tapping markets like OEMs, metal fabricators and tier automotive suppliers.

• This role offers a competitive base salary (depending on experience) plus uncapped commission earnings. The target total compensation is ~$200k+ as you successfully build the business. High-achievers will find clear pathways to leadership roles as the company scales through acquisitions and team building.

• Competitive benefits including:

•    401(k) plan with company contribution

•    Paid time off

•    Car allowance and mileage/travel reimbursement

What You'll Do

• Spend initial time at Midwest company base of operations (Cleveland, OH) to understand processes and build internal relationships.

• Identify easiest entry points for new customers, build multi-point relationships with stakeholders at all levels (e.g., purchasing managers, labs, plant operators, bosses) to uncover pain points and opportunities to introduce the Company’s products.

• Focus on OEMs for high-impact wins (e.g., automotive tier 2/3, metal fabricators, equipment/machinery/parts manufacturers) while considering applicators and job shops; use strategies like second sourcing to phase in and take share.

• Map 50–100 target OEMs by sub-segment; sequence outreach, samples, trials, and second-source wins.

• Expand beyond current regional customer base to win new accounts in the Southwest (priority: CA, TX big unexplored markets) and South/Southeast, while leveraging parent company infrastructure in these areas; Midwest remains highest OEM concentration.

• Be primary contact for customer trials. Liaise with the lab, production, and logistics teams to communicate production and delivery timing.

• Own pipeline and reporting in CRM (HubSpot); deliver weekly forecast and quarterly territory plan.

Candidate Profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Business or other relevant field.

•  5+ years in powder coatings (or closely related industrial coatings) sales/market development with deep knowledge of coating process and applications.

• Track record of hunting and breaking into new OEM customers (e.g., automotive tier 2/3, equipment attachments, metal fabricators) with long sales cycles (months for relationship building, trials, and gradual phase-ins).

• Comfortable as a front-line individual contributor and with the vision for a bigger future. Experience covering multi-state territories.

• Portfolio of relationships from prior roles (considering non-compete limitations) a significant advantage.

• Technical competency to speak the industry language, provide credible answers, and gain entry through multi-stakeholder engagement.

• Persistent and persevering, you are comfortable with the long sales cycle and typical process of samples, trials, and tests.

• Entrepreneurial, motivated, and hungry mindset; you thrive on the challenge of aggressive growth. Independent and resourceful, you are able to figure things out without constant oversight.

• This role is remote-friendly with a preference for candidates based in the Midwest (e.g., Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania) or a major metropolitan area in the South, Southeast, or Southwest near a major airport.

•    Routine travel required: 50–70%.

•    Regular visits to the Cleveland, OH headquarters are essential.

•    Extensive travel across key markets: Midwest, Texas, California, and the Southeast.

•    A car allowance will be provided for travel.

• Good sense of humor, positive disposition and emotional intelligence are essential!
