What You'll Do
• Spend initial time at Midwest company base of operations (Cleveland, OH) to understand processes and build internal relationships.
• Identify easiest entry points for new customers, build multi-point relationships with stakeholders at all levels (e.g., purchasing managers, labs, plant operators, bosses) to uncover pain points and opportunities to introduce the Company’s products.
• Focus on OEMs for high-impact wins (e.g., automotive tier 2/3, metal fabricators, equipment/machinery/parts manufacturers) while considering applicators and job shops; use strategies like second sourcing to phase in and take share.
• Map 50–100 target OEMs by sub-segment; sequence outreach, samples, trials, and second-source wins.
• Expand beyond current regional customer base to win new accounts in the Southwest (priority: CA, TX big unexplored markets) and South/Southeast, while leveraging parent company infrastructure in these areas; Midwest remains highest OEM concentration.
• Be primary contact for customer trials. Liaise with the lab, production, and logistics teams to communicate production and delivery timing.
• Own pipeline and reporting in CRM (HubSpot); deliver weekly forecast and quarterly territory plan.
Candidate Profile
• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Business or other relevant field.
• 5+ years in powder coatings (or closely related industrial coatings) sales/market development with deep knowledge of coating process and applications.
• Track record of hunting and breaking into new OEM customers (e.g., automotive tier 2/3, equipment attachments, metal fabricators) with long sales cycles (months for relationship building, trials, and gradual phase-ins).
• Comfortable as a front-line individual contributor and with the vision for a bigger future. Experience covering multi-state territories.
• Portfolio of relationships from prior roles (considering non-compete limitations) a significant advantage.
• Technical competency to speak the industry language, provide credible answers, and gain entry through multi-stakeholder engagement.
• Persistent and persevering, you are comfortable with the long sales cycle and typical process of samples, trials, and tests.
• Entrepreneurial, motivated, and hungry mindset; you thrive on the challenge of aggressive growth. Independent and resourceful, you are able to figure things out without constant oversight.
• This role is remote-friendly with a preference for candidates based in the Midwest (e.g., Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania) or a major metropolitan area in the South, Southeast, or Southwest near a major airport.
• Routine travel required: 50–70%.
• Regular visits to the Cleveland, OH headquarters are essential.
• Extensive travel across key markets: Midwest, Texas, California, and the Southeast.
• A car allowance will be provided for travel.
• Good sense of humor, positive disposition and emotional intelligence are essential!
